OSU: The Mending Room

The Mending Room is an intimate multidisciplinary performance that explores the tense political relationship between China and Hong Kong through prismatic magical realism. We believe it is a relevant work in both format and subject matter as it stages another story of political oppression and threatened human rights, but in an unusual approach. In today’s complex political climate, it offers a space for quiet and collective reflection as well as hope.

The Mending Room is a 60-minute performance for 8 to 12 audience members that takes an intimate journey shared by thousands of people. Upon arrival, visitors sit around a table where they are greeted with hot jasmine tea. The room speaks through invisible speakers and asks the audience to blindfold themselves. The journey begins.
