Jasna Žmak: this is my truth, tell me yours
“this is my truth, tell me yours” is a solo project by dramaturge Jasna Žmak, in which she explores her relationship to the artistic field and the responsibilities and anxieties that the role of a contemporary artist entails. She draws on her personal experience from 2011, when she started suffering from tinnitus and hyperacusis after she fired a dummy gun during the performance “MandićMachine”, directed by Bojan Jablanovec and played by Mark Mandić. Žmak creates his own version – ŽmakMachine – and explores how art shapes the reality we live in. Although it may seem unrelated at first glance, the themes of tinnitus and patriarchy become a central motif in this work that straddles the line between stand-up comedy and lecture performance. Taking the stage for the first time as a performer, Zhmak engages with questions of truthfulness and representation, participation and responsibility, taking us through her dramaturgical and sexual experiences and asking questions about the relevance and meaning of artistic production in an era of savage capitalism – questions that she also poses to the audience.
