FRAS Theater Group: Workshop Objects and Shadows
Puppet or object theater is not just for children! Did you know that you can create it at school or at home using various found materials? Try a shadow theater workshop with Johana Bártová and Jakub Šulík from the FRAS theater group. Participants will try their hand at making their own puppets, working on story construction, and learning the basic principles of animation in puppet theater.
The FRAS theater group was founded in 2019 by students and now graduates of KALD DAMU Johana Bártová, Jakub Šulík, and Matěj Šumbera. FRAS has long focused on puppet and object theater. It explores the experimental possibilities of this theatrical genre. Its primary goal is to explore a unique theatrical language that incorporates elements from other artistic genres such as film and computer games.
FRAS regularly presents productions at theater festivals both in the Czech Republic and abroad. For its production Nejmenší ze Sámů (The Smallest of the Sami), the group won second place in the Erik Award at the 29th Přelet nad loutkářským hnízdem (Flight Over the Puppeteers’ Nest) festival. The productions Medař and Takk Takk are part of the travel catalog of the Institute of Theater Arts Perform Czech. Since 2021, it has been collaborating with the experimental space Mengi and SÍM residency in Reykjavík, whose co-production resulted in the productions Takk Takk and Kosmokopce.
